There will always be technological change that will alter how we live, how we work, and how society and our economy functions. We should not fear change that actually will help improve our productivity, our ability to develop skills, and our ability to expand economic opportunities that will grow and shift our society as we know it.
There is always risks to mitigate. But, we should be looking to stagnate just because it makes some people complacent. So much of the narratives around artificial intelligence is simply hysteria and turns out driven by bots. But Americans should understand the risks and potential for artificial intelligence. Rather than fearing change.
The only change that we should really fear are ones that we know are proven failures like centralization and nationalization of economic means of production. That leads to tyranny, oppression, and systemic poverty. Not hysteria as there are actual proven outcomes throughout our world history.
But, I am not sure that we should fear technology that is simply making us more efficient, while completing redundant tasks to save us time. The ability to learn new skills and educate ourselves about any topic or issue is something that is an advancement for human kind.
Will artificial technology put everyone out of a job? I highly doubt that. But I think it will shift the jobs we may work in and also create a host of new career paths that are currently not available. The opportunities that artificial intelligence can provide will elevate those willing to use it to advance their careers, innovate processes, and fill gaps that they see in the market.
Americans will have to adapt to the new technology and use it to benefit their interests. Policymakers should help protect society from the risks that are actually harmful, but should in no way be fearmongering. That is not helpful. Lead the responsible change rather than be an influencer.
