Welcome to The CRC Team Channel.
The desire for perfection cannot be the enemy of very good. Especially if what you are fighting for is not possible by procedure rules. I agree that our federal government has kicked the can down the road and we are running out of road.
But, we also need to balance the tough decisions with how to best shield the citizens from the feeling a burden that is in excess of what can be reasonably absorbed and fair. We all may not something needs to be done but the cost must be reasonable.
The taxpayer will bear the burden, both individual and corporate. There is no escaping that. Non-taxpayers will face some impact through scaling back of sevices. There will be shared pain but the longer we wait the greater it will be with little options for offsets.
Our annual credit card bill payment is a significant proportion of our income. Not considering other mandatory payments. Our debt was downgraded again. So we need to stop ignoring the problems.
This is not a partisan issue. But each side will try to protect what is important to their reliable voters. But sacrifices need to be made while maintaining the quality of our services, which actually need to be improved.
Debt management is hard. Anyone who has had to manage their way to the other side. You have to make sacrifices across the board. Little ones now may be uncomfortable or inconvenient. But imagine how much more inconvenient bankruptcy could be?
The politics around the issue of fiscal responsibility can cloud the issues and potential solutions. The problems cannot be exclusively solved by either cutting spending or raising taxes. The hole is way too big for either to work.
The obvious hope is that economic growth can be a viable third option for solving the issue. But for that to work, it will need to be robust and start immediately. The problem with fighting a tariff war and a credit problem is both create challenges for the other.
Progressives want the problem to be solved by the wealthy. But the wealthy already pay more than the average taxpayer and generate more economic activity. The negative economic response may create a greater need to borrow when economic activity slows.
Economic jealousy will not solve this issue. There will be government programs that will need to be eliminated, restructured, or privatized. At the very least, fraud, corruption, and waste need to be eliminated.
Not every dollar spent is vital and not every program should be paid for by the government. Some are better off coordinated by the government with private sector partners.
We cannot have any sacred cows or anchors to the status quo. We must make bold new changes like DOGE uncovered while still keeping America operational.
